Highlights of Fall 2007 Literary Luncheon
Tina McElroy Ansa - Water Tina McElroy Ansa was the feature author at the Fall 2007 Literary Luncheon held Sat. Nov. 17, 2007 at the Alsip Double Tree Inn. McElroy Ansa thouroughly entertained the audience with her "down south" humor and southern folk lore that is captured in much of her work.  Her newest novel, "Taking After Mudear" is a sequel to her series that is based on the lives of dysfunctional family set in the fictional town of Mulberry,GA. The three Lovejoy sisters, whose controlling mother has now passed away, find out how much influence she has on their lives even in death.
Author Barbara Keaton, a Chicago romance writer, talked about her writing and how she chooses unconventional settings and careers for the characters in her novels.  Through her works she is able to break some of the stereotypes about African American women and romance.
Another highlight of the event was the spoken word presentation by Chicago poetess, Shahidah Qaiyim.  She held the audience spellbound with her poetic recitations. The audience was inspired as she shared with them how writing and spoken word helped her to triumph in the face of personal tragedy.

Thank you for all of your support.
Sincerely,

Constance D. Shabazz
